Cardinals Send Paul DeJong To Triple-A
3 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals optioned shortstop Paul DeJong to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, according to sources. The former All-Star was hitting just .130 with a .417 OPS over 77 at-bats to begin the season. Tommy Edman is expected to move to shortstop in the interim, at least until Edmundo Sosa is done with his minor league rehab assignment as he recovers from COVID-19. DeJong had a career-high 30 home runs in 2019, but he has regressed ever since and currently has a career-worst 29.1% strikeout rate. With Edman moving to shortstop temporarily, Brendan Donovan should get the first look at the keystone for St. Louis. Hopefully for those that have DeJong rostered in deeper formats, it won't be long before he regains some confidence at the plate and returns to the majors.
