3 years agoCarolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule isn't ruling out the team adding a veteran quarterback, but if the season started tomorrow, Rhule made it clear that quarterback Sam Darnold would be the starter. Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield has been mentioned as an option for Carolina ever since the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. If the Panthers don't add another signal-caller -- re-signing Cam Newton is another option -- rookie Matt Corral could compete with Darnold for the starting gig in training camp. Darnold played in only 12 games last year due to injury, and he wasn't very good when he was healthy, throwing for 2,527 yards, nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
