Mariners Option Jarred Kelenic Friday
3 years agoThe Seattle Mariners optioned outfielder Jarred Kelenic to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday among a slew of roster moves. The team also activated reliever Sergio Romo (shoulder) from the injured list, called up outfielder Steven Souza Jr. and infielder Mike Ford from the minors, claimed right-hander Adrian Sampson off waivers, optioned left-hander Danny Young and outfielder Stuart Fairchild to the minors and designated right-hander Yohan Ramirez for assignment. Kelenic, a former top prospect, has struggled mightily to the tune of a .140/.219/.291 slash line with 36 strikeouts, three home runs, 10 RBI and four stolen bases in his first 30 games for the M's. The 22-year-old left-handed hitter still has plenty of upside and should be back in the bigs eventually, but the Mariners will hope he can get back on track in the minors first.
