Robbie Ray Picks Up Strikeout Pace
3 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Robbie Ray broke out in a big way in 2021, but he has not shown the same level of performance so far this season. Through seven starts, Ray has a 3-3 record with a 4.22 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings. That adds up to a decent enough stat line, but it's somewhat alarming that Ray is only striking out 8.65 batters per nine innings when his career rate is 11.11 K/9, and he hasn't struck out less than 11.25 batters per nine innings since 2015. In his most recent outing, Ray did whiff ten hitters, and he'll look to continue making hitters miss against the Mets on Saturday at Citi Field.
