Ed Howard To Have Season-Ending Hip Surgery
3 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop prospect Ed Howard (hip) will have season-ending left hip surgery after suffering an injury while playing for Single-A South Bend last week. The team's No. 14 prospect, was the 16th overall pick in the 2020 draft, was injured trying to elude a tag on a wide throw to first base on May 10. He has played in a total of only 103 minor league games after missing the 2020 season due to COVID-19, so Howard has lost considerable development time. Howard had a slow start at the plate this year, but he went 16-for-50 with five walks and an .832 OPS in his last 14 games to raise his final line to .244/.323/.317 with one home run, 11 RBI and three steals in 23 games for South Bend.
