Elijah Mitchell Atop A Crowded 49ers Backfield
3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell set a franchise record for most rushing yards by a rookie (963) last year while adding five rushing touchdowns in only 11 regular season games. The team still views Mitchell as their top option in the running game, but he's bulking up this offseason in order to try and stay healthy after dealing with knee, rib, concussion and shoulder issues in 2021. The Niners also envision third-rounder Tyrion Davis-Price emerging as a bigger and more powerful complement to Mitchell. Davis-Price should help the Niners to be more productive on third-and-short situations, an area where they struggled last year. San Francisco also has Jeff Wilson Jr., Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty in the backfield. Mitchell will certainly be the one to target in fantasy, but he'll need to stay healthy in order to maintain his grip on this crowded backfield.
