Jonnu Smith Attending OTAs After Skipping Last Year
2 years agoNew England Patriots tight end Jonnu Smith will be attending the team's voluntary workouts. The 26-year-old skipped last year's offseason program (his first as a Patriot) due to the birth of his daughter and seems intent on extra time at the facility entering his second season with the team. "(Last year) I had a baby, man, so I definitely missed a lot," Smith said after Day 1 of organized team activities. "And then in minicamp, I had (an injury), so my offseason was choppy. I had some great things like my baby girl being born, and I had some unfortunate setbacks, as well. I definitely missed some quality time here, man, and I recognize how valuable that time is. I'm just trying to take advantage of that." Smith finished 2021 with a disappointing 28 receptions on 45 targets, with 294 yards and one touchdown after signing a four-year $50 million contract. He remains behind tight end Hunter Henry on the depth chart, but the team may opt for frequent 2TE sets to support the run game.
