Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Dealing With Power Outage
3 years agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had 48 home runs and finished second in the American League MVP voting last year. However, in May of this year, his .706 OPS would be the third-worst mark in his short career. Guerrero hit a homer on Tuesday, his first extra-base hit since May 5, a span in which 360 different hitters had at least one extra-base hit. The 23-year-old is striking out just over 11% of the time in May and has a nice hard-hit rate of 56.9%. The issue is that he's put 60% of his batted balls on the ground in May, easily a career high. He's hitting .219 with a .219 slugging percentage on ground balls. Pitchers have changed how they're attacking Vlad, giving him fewer four-seam fastballs in the strike zone while keeping other pitches low in the zone. The 23-year-old is still a must-start in fantasy, but he's been a disappointment with a .263/.356/.447 slash line through 42 games in 2022.
