Spencer Torkelson Sitting Saturday
3 years agoDetroit Tigers rookie first baseman Spencer Torkelson is getting the day off on Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians. Torkelson was initially scheduled to receive the day off on Friday before the game against the Guardians was postponed due to inclement weather. The former first overall pick in 2020 has had a tough go of it in his first 40 major league games, as he's hitting just .179/.292/.309 with a .601 OPS, four home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored in 144 plate appearances. The power is real, but the 22-year-old will continue to have growing pains in his rookie season. Harold Castro is at first base and is hitting fifth on Saturday against Guardians right-hander Shane Bieber.
