Browns Won't Cut Baker Mayfield
2 years agoThe Cleveland Browns have no plans to cut quarterback Baker Mayfield, even if he's still on the roster at the start of training camp in July, according to a league source. It makes no sense for Cleveland to cut Mayfield with him under contract for a fully guaranteed $18.86 million this year. Cleveland is better off hanging onto him to see if a desperate team will trade for him and take a sizable chunk of his salary off their hands in the event of a QB injury before the trade deadline. The Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks have been the two teams most closely linked to Mayfield, but they have wanted the Browns to eat most of Mayfield's contract in a potential trade. So for now, the situation is in a stalemate. Mayfield's long-term future is with another organization, most likely as a backup.
