2 years agoThe San Diego Padres optioned infielder Robinson Cano to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday, but he has elected free agency. In a corresponding move, the team selected the contract of outfielder Nomar Mazara from the minors. After getting cut by the New York Mets earlier this year, Cano went just 3-for-33 with one RBI and 10 strikeouts in 12 games for the Friars after he hit .195/.233/.268 with a homer and three RBI in 12 games for the Mets. The 39-year-old finished his short stay in San Diego by going hitless in his final 20 at-bats. Cano has struck out 27.3% of the time this year, and it remains to be seen if he'll get another shot in the big leagues in 2022 and beyond.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
