2 years agoMinnesota Twins right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez, who made a spot start for the team last Friday, exercised an opt-out clause in his contract. The Twins now have 48 hours to add him to the 26-man roster or release him. There's a chance that the team uses Gonzalez to start the game on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but it's likely that he'll be designated for assignment after that. The 30-year-old allowed three earned runs on four hits (two home runs) while walking none and striking out just one in a three-inning start last Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays. In eight outings (five starts) for Triple-A St. Paul this year, Gonzalez has a 3.44 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 36 2/3 innings.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
