2 years agoAtlanta Braves left-handed reliever Tyler Matzek (shoulder) was cleared to begin throwing long toss before Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Matzek has been out since mid-May with left shoulder inflammation, and skipper Brian Snitker said the team won't get a good feel for where Matzek stands until he resumes throwing off a mound. Matzek thinks his left shoulder discomfort might have developed as he compensated for back pain that he battled early in spring training. The 31-year-old had made 13 appearances for the Braves before his injury, allowing six earned runs on six hits while walking nine and striking out 10 in 10 2/3 relief innings for a 5.06 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
