2 years agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher Matt Barnes (shoulder) has graduated to playing catch at the team's spring training facilities, and the next step for him will be to throw a bullpen session. The Red Sox say he is improving, although his latest MRI exam on June 2 showed some fluid in his shoulder, according to skipper Alex Cora. The 31-year-old right-hander had a 7.94 ERA, 1.71 WHIP, 14 strikeouts and 12 walks in 20 appearances for the Red Sox before he landed on the injured list, so the Red Sox won't rush him back to their bullpen, and he could be in for more of a low-leverage role once he does return. In his absence, Tanner Houck has emerged as Boston's preferred choice in the closer role.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
