Yadier Molina To Miss A Few Weeks
2 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals are preparing to be without 10-time All-Star catcher Yadier Molina (knee) for at least a few weeks as the 39-year-old tries to recover from knee soreness that has plagued him for most of the season. Top catching prospect Ivan Herrera has been called up from Triple-A Memphis, but Andrew Knizner will receive the bulk of the starts behind the plate. Molina received multiple cortisone shots last weekend, and there is no definitive timetable for his return. He has been trying to get in shape during the season after reporting late to spring training due to a personal matter, and he has fought consistent pain since March, which would explain why he's hitting just .213 with two homers and a .519 OPS in 2022. Knizner is batting just .198/.283/.257 in 36 games, so the Cardinals have gotten very little from the catching position offensively.
