Max Scherzer To Throw For Double-A Tuesday
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer (oblique) will pitch for Double-A Binghamton in a minor league rehab start on Tuesday. Scherzer will be working with catcher James McCann (wrist), who is also working his way back from the injured list. The 37-year-old right-hander suffered a left oblique strain on March 18, but he is getting closer to a return and threw a simulated game last Thursday. If Scherzer is able to come out of Tuesday's rehab outing without any setbacks, there's a good chance he'll be ready to rejoin New York's rotation on Sunday against the Miami Marlins. The eight-time All-Star is a must-start every time he takes the bump, and he had a 2.54 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 59 strikeouts and 11 walks in 49 2/3 innings over eight starts before his injury.
