Jeffrey Springs Strikes Out Nine Friday
2 years agoTampa Bay Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs struck out a season-high nine hitters in a no-decision against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. All three of the earned runs he allowed came on three solo home runs, and he walked none in his six innings of work. The long ball has been a bit of an issue for Springs, but otherwise he's been solid for fantasy managers, posting a 2.25 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP with a 27% strikeout rate and a career-low 5.6% walk rate in 60 innings over 18 appearances (10 starts). He also has a career-low .214 batting average against and a solid 3.34 FIP. Springs currently has a career-low .265 batting average on balls in play, so he probably won't be this good all year, but he's worth rostering in most mixed leagues.
