Garrett Whitlock Plays Catch
2 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Whitlock (hip) played catch on Saturday, which is a step in the right direction as he works his way back from hip inflammation. "We have to be careful not to push him," manager Alex Cora said. Whitlock also threw a simulated game last Tuesday, but the Red Sox don't plan on activating him from the injured list for the start of their series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. The 26-year-old will take it slow after not feeling that great last week. When he's ready, Whitlock is fully expected to return to the starting rotation, as he was sporting a 3.51 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 49 strikeouts and 11 walks in 48 2/3 innings over his 13 outings (nine starts) before his injury.
