Konnor Pilkington Called Up To Start Game 2
2 years agoThe Cleveland Guardians recalled rookie left-hander Konnor Pilkington up from the minors as the 27th man on Tuesday, and he will start Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins. Pilkington has made his first eight major league appearances (five starts) for the Guardians this year, allowing 11 earned runs on 27 hits while walking 15 and striking out 28 in 27 innings pitched. The strikeouts have been nice, but he'll need to show better control (1.56 WHIP) if he wants to remain successful at the big-league level. He's likely to be sent back to Triple-A Columbus after this outing, but Pilkington is likely to see more spot starts this year. For what it's worth, the 24-year-old southpaw hasn't been as good as a starter, posting a 4.50 ERA, allowing all 11 of his earned runs in 22 innings pitched.
