2 years agoTexas Rangers rookie infielder Josh H. Smith (calf) is starting at third base and is hitting leadoff on Wednesday against Kansas City Royals right-hander Zack Greinke. Smith left Tuesday's game early with a right calf contusion, but he'll be back in there a day later. In 11 games since being called up from the minors for his first taste of big-league pitching, he has gone 8-for-27 (.296) with no homers, no RBI, five runs scored, two stolen bases, seven walks and four strikeouts. Per MLB Pipeline, Smith is the team's No. 7 prospect. The 24-year-old was slashing .266/.370/.401 with four home runs, 30 RBI, 31 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 44 games for Triple-A Round Rock before his call-up. Smith has exceptional bat-to-ball skills and strike-zone judgment, so he could become relevant in mixed leagues if he sticks as an everyday player for Texas.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
