Michael Chavis Not Playing Against Nationals
2 years agoPittsburgh Pirates first baseman Michael Chavis is out of the starting lineup again on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals. It's the second straight game that Chavis has started on the bench against a right-handed pitcher. Instead, Josh VanMeter will get another start at the cold corner and will hit fifth in the batting order against Nationals right-hander Paolo Espino on Wednesday. Chavis has gone hitless in his last four games with eight strikeouts in 12 at-bats, and he's also hitting just .177 (15-for-85) with three home runs, eight RBI and 30 strikeouts in 24 games in the month of June to drop his season slash line to .244/.289/.418. He could drop further down the pecking order once Yoshi Tsutsugo returns from the injured list.
