Yasmani Grandal To Begin Rehab Assignment Wednesday
2 years agoChicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) said he will start a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday with Double-A Birmingham and he hopes to return to the team after the All-Star break. Grandal will likely serve as the designated hitter through the weekend before moving to Triple-A Charlotte. The 33-year-old veteran catcher has been out for three weeks with back spasms, and the White Sox won't rush him back into action. Hopefully he can turn things around at the plate when he's back in the big leagues, as he was hitting only .185/.294/.237 with two home runs, 15 RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in 173 at-bats before his injury. Reese McGuire and Seby Zavala will continue to share playing time behind the plate with Grandal sidelined.
