2 years agoThe Detroit Tigers optioned rookie first baseman Spencer Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Torkelson was scheduled to start on the bench on Sunday before the series finale against the Cleveland Guardians was postponed, and now he'll find himself heading back to the minors during the All-Star break. The former first overall pick in 2020 has struggled mightily this year in his first taste of big-league pitching, hitting just .197/.282/.295 with five home runs, 21 RBI and 25 runs scored in 298 plate appearances over 83 games. He's struck out 76 times while walking 29 times. It remains to be seen how long the 22-year-old will work on his approach with Toledo, but we should see Torkelson back in the big leagues sooner than later.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
