Steven Souza Jr. Calls It A Career
2 years agoFree-agent outfielder Steven Souza Jr. announced on his Twitter account on Tuesday that he is retiring from professional baseball. Souza was originally taken by the Washington Nationals in the third round of the 2007 draft out of Cascade High School in Washington. The 33-year-old played with six teams in his eight-year career in the big leagues, spending most of his time with the Tampa Bay Rays from 2015-17. He started the 2022 season with the Seattle Mariners but played in just six games before being released in May. Souza always had intriguing power-speed potential, but serious injuries derailed his career for the most part. He finishes his career with a .229/.318/.411 slash line, 72 home runs, 207 RBI, 223 runs scored and 42 stolen bases in 505 games and 1,895 plate appearances.
