Mets Agree With First-Rounder Jett Williams
2 years agoThe New York Mets agreed with high-school shortstop Jett Williams, the No. 14 overall pick in this year's draft, to a deal on Friday that includes a $3.9 million signing bonus. Williams was one of the best all-around high-school bats in this year's class. He's on the small side with a 5-foot-8 frame, but he makes up for it with his strength to generate impressive power from the right side of the plate. The 18-year-old is a plus runner as well, and he's projected to either stay at shortstop in the long term or move to his natural position in center field. Williams won't wow anyone with his size, but he packs a punch and should also be intriguing for his speed if he makes it up to the big leagues in a few years.
