2 years agoSan Diego Padres left-handed reliever Drew Pomeranz (elbow) could begin a minor league rehab assignment this week, although skipper Bob Melvin said it's unknown whether Pomeranz would instead throw another simulated inning. The 33-year-old is recovering from flexor tendon surgery last August and "still feels it some" when he throws, according to Melvin. Pomeranz threw 19 pitches in a simulated game on Saturday, but he still has a ways to go before he'll be able to make his 2022 season debut out of San Diego's bullpen. The veteran southpaw could be a key late-inning piece for the Padres when healthy, but he's unlikely to be a factor for saves, with only nine in his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
