2 years agoSan Diego Padres pitcher Luis Garcia struck out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. He entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The 35-year-old received the first save opportunity with the recent news of incumbent closer Taylor Rogers "getting a little bit of a break" from closing duties. Garcia tossed a perfect inning on Sunday, recording his first save of the year. The veteran right-hander owns a 3.23 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a 42:12 K: BB across 39 innings in 2022. After his recent struggles, Rogers will likely be eased back into the closer role.
