Tyrion Davis-Price, Jeff Wilson Jr. Could Be Involved Early
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell will get the first crack at keeping his starting job after setting the franchise record for rushing yards by a rookie in 2021. But the team drafted Tyrion Davis-Price in the third round, re-signed Jeff Wilson Jr. and still has JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon in the mix. Ideally, Davis-Price will offer short-yardage and goal-line help with Mitchell handling the bulk of the work. But there are injury concerns with Mitchell, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Davis-Price and Wilson involved early in the season, even if Mitchell remains the starter. Another thing to consider: The Niners have had a different leading rusher in each of head coach Kyle Shanahan's five seasons with the team. As such, Mitchell should be targeted as more of a low-end RB2 in fantasy drafts.
