Eric Hosmer Declines To Go To Nationals
2 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer has declined to go to the Washington Nationals in the deal that will send outfielder Juan Soto to San Diego. Hosmer exercised his no-trade clause and will now stay in San Diego for the time being, but it's unclear if first baseman Josh Bell will join Soto in the deal from Washington. Either way, Soto will become a Padre officially on Tuesday. Stay tuned for the rest of the details. The Padres are trying to get Hosmer and his three years and $39 million off their books to stay under the luxury tax threshold now that they are taking on Soto. While Hosmer remains with the Friars for now, it's very possible that he accepts a deal to another club before Tuesday's deadline passes. The 32-year-old is hitting .272/.336/.391 with eight home runs, 40 RBI and 32 runs scored in 90 games in 2022.
