Steelers "Want" Extension For Diontae Johnson
2 years agoPittsburgh Steelers new general manager Omar Khan said that the team would like to sign wide receiver Diontae Johnson to an extension, but the current market is making things complicated. "We want Diontae and we are excited to have Diontae a part of this team. We hope he is going to be a Steeler for a long time," Khan said. The Steelers just signed kicker Chris Boswell to a four-year, $20 million extension, which ties him with Ravens kicker Justin Tucker as the highest-paid kicker in the league. Minkah Fitzpatrick is also the highest-paid safety, and T.J. Watt is the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL. But historically, the Steelers haven't paid receivers on multi-year deals pas their first contract, with the exceptions being Hines Ward and Antonio Brown. The market value for receivers has blown up this offseason, and it's unclear if the Steelers are comfortable giving Johnson what he thinks he's worth after his first 1,000-yard season in 2021.
