BALLER MOVE: Add in 15+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 0% of leagues
ANALYSIS: After going in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB Draft, it took several years of up and down play in the minors for catcher Brian Serven to make his way up to the Colorado Rockies. Now that the 27-year-old former ASU Sun Devil has arrived, he has already demonstrated the fact that he has pop in the HR-friendly environment of Coors Field, currently holding nine XBH (three doubles, one triple, five home runs) and a slash of .244/.308/.412 in his first 119 AB.
His walk rate and XBH rate still sit slightly below league average, but his strikeout rate of 21.5% is solid for a backstop at any stage of their career, and his 29% line drive rate combined with a 10.6% HR/FB ratio have maximized the damage that Serven is able to do when he gets solid hold of a given pitch. He has been heating up over the last two weeks as well, with two homers and a .333/.364/.667 slash over the last 25 AB, spanning back before the start of August. At this stage in the season, it can be super difficult to find a reliable pickup at catcher, so in deeper leagues, it is worth taking a chance on a surging young player in a power-friendly park like Brian Serven.
