2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher prospect Jose Butto is with the team in Philadelphia for their weekend series against the Phillies. With Taijuan Walker (back) questionable for his start on Sunday, and David Peterson and Trevor Williams each starting Saturday in a doubleheader, there is a chance that Butto will make his major league debut on Sunday. In 22 games (20 starts) in 2022 over two minor league levels (Double-A and Triple-A), Butto has posted a combined 4.12 ERA, and 1.31 WHIP, with 111 strikeouts over 98 1/3 innings pitched. Butto performed much better in 2021 when he posted a 3.83 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 110 strikeouts over a combined 98 2/3 IP between High-A and Double-A. Butto, the 15th ranked prospect in the Mets' organization as per MLB Pipeline, offers high strikeout upside but has not posted elite ratios in the upper levels of the minors thus far. He is worth rostering in dynasty formats, but managers in redraft formats may want to hold off on taking a flyer on Butto until he shows what he can do at the MLB level, assuming he does get a chance to pitch for the Mets this season.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
