Dameon Pierce Emerges As Houston's Lead Back
2 years agoHouston Texans running back Dameon Pierce is the team's primary back based on performance and faces less competition, with the Texans releasing Marlon Mack on August 30. Houston did add Mack back to the team's practice squad. Texans head coach Lovie Smith recently said the Texans were trying to figure out who the lead back should be. Pierce is coming off a strong preseason and, with Mack out of the picture, is expected to handle early-down work. Despite Smith not naming a starter, Pierce has emerged as the Texans' lead back. The 22-year-old rushed for 86 yards on 11 rushing attempts and a touchdown while averaging 7.8 yards per carry during the preseason. His fantasy stock has skyrocketed recently and has an FFPC ADP of 59.67. Pierce is 18th in the latest Rotoballer rankings and is a mid-range RB2 now that he's secured Houston's starting primary running back gig.
