We have switched things up a little bit in our Daily League column. Instead of giving you an exact lineup, we'll be sharing top positional plays with quick analysis about why we like these guys. There is no set budget for these picks, so they may be star-studded... the idea here is to give you some of the best players that are playing at each position.
Here are some intriguing plays for May 30, 2013:
SP: Doug Fister ($6,500) - Fister has looked a little shaky over the past few starts, but that is a good thing for you Daily Leaguers. His price today at $6.5K is a great value for a solid pitcher in front of an amazing offense (which also happens to be facing Jeff Locke today).
C: Ryan Doumit ($3,000) - Doumit has been heating up a bit over the past few game, sites have been slow to adjust his price. You always want the hot hand in daily league play, so make sure you get him in the lineup if he is starting for the Twins today.
1B: Freddie Freeman ($4,000) - Don't go overpaying for Joey Votto or Chris Davis today when Mr. Atlanta is available for $4K against Dickey (whom he owns to the tune of 9-for-18 with a bomb and 4 doubles).
2B: Jose Altuve ($3,300) - I'm tempted to recommend Robinson Cano for $4.3K against Dillon Gee, but let's save you $1K today and go with Altuve in Colorado. He is pretty much a lock for a hit, or a run, or a steal, or an extra base hit, so he is a good middle-of-the-road play who is also safe to produce.
3B: Mark Reynolds ($3,500) - Anytime a guy with this kind of consistent power is priced well below $4K, you need to strongly consider him. Reynolds homered last night and is facing the homerun-prone Homer Bailey tonight at home. This has been the cheapest Mark Reynolds has been for a while, so don't sleep on your opportunity to get some cheap power potential tonight.
SS: JJ Hardy ($3,400) - He has been raking lately, and that entire team is sizzling on offense. He is facing a homerun-prone and struggling Dan Haren in the bandbox otherwise known as Camden Yards tonight, so plug him in and enjoy the stats he will most surely rack up for you.
OF: Nate McLouth ($3,800) - Lets stay in Charm City for a moment… the speedy leadoff hitter for the potent Orioles' lineup has slowed down just a smidge of late, so his price is finally affordable again in the daily games. He crushes right-handed pitching and is as good a lock as anyone to own Dan Haren tonight.
OF: Matt Joyce ($3,600) - As you can see, I am avoiding the obvious recommendations of Mike Trout and Adam Jones so we can get to the value-play sleepers. Joyce has been very productive of late, driving in runs for the Rays, and we love him for the pricetag tonight against a regression-prone Ricky Nolasco.
OF: Jacoby Ellsbury ($3,500) - After his super-hot start and over-inflated daily league value, Jacoby Ellsbury has finally settled into an affordable price point, and he's hitting well at the moment. He has racked up 22.5 points in the past 4 games and is facing a favorable matchup in Philly tonight against Jonathan Pettibone.
As always, remember to check your daily lineups before they lock and make sure you are doing your own research, too, for optimal performance!
