Kolten Wong (2B, STL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in NL-Only Leagues; Continue Scouting in All Other Leagues

ANALYSIS: Wong is mostly a contact hitter, but can connect for some power on occasion. Still, his biggest fantasy contribution will be his speed. He gets on base a lot and is aggressive on the basepaths, so his stolen base numbers should always be up there. He currently has nine SB in 151 AB. At only 23, he has yet to find his swing in the major leagues, but he is improving. After mustering only 15 hits in 68 AB in April, he bounced back in May to the tune of a .418 OBP in 48 AB. Although he has regressed in June, managing just four hits in 32 AB without drawing a single walk, he has shown signs of promise for the future. As for now, he doesn't quite get enough at-bats against lefties to be of much enticement for fantasy owners. Wong still has a ton of potential, but until he can consistently hit left-handed pitching, he may better off left in free agency, except in deep, NL-Only leagues for teams in need of additional stolen bases.
