BALLER MOVE: Continue Scouting
ANALYSIS: Jedd Gyorko had a solid rookie campaign in 2013 in which he belted 23 HR in 486 AB. He was a favorite sleeper coming into this year, however in 204 AB he has mustered only 5 HR, 33 H and 12 BB, good enough for an abysmal .162/.212/.270 slash line before landing on the disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Gyorko was one of the most-highly regarded hitting prospects in the 2010 MLB Draft, and had always hit in the minors, with 62 HR and a remarkable .321/.386/.530 slash line in three years before making the jump to the big leagues, including 30 HR and a .311 AVG in 2012. I definitely think he will bounce back by next year and be a key piece for San Diego going forward, but a sophomore slump seems to be in the works here. Unless you have an open DL slot, go ahead and leave Gyorko in free agency until he is healthy and producing at a much higher level.
