BALLER MOVE: Add in AL-Only Leagues / Deeper Mixed Leagues
ANALYSIS: To me, Matt Joyce is one of those guys who is always towards the top of the free agents list in average-sized mixed leagues. Maybe he gets picked up as a result of an injury, but he isn't likely to maintain control of a roster spot. He is a solid player, who will contribute a little bit in every category, but not one of our must-have waiver wire sleepers. You pretty much know that, by season's end, he will give you 15-20 home runs, single-digit stolen bases and an OBP around .340. His power numbers might be down a bit so far this year, with only seven home runs and 36 RBI in 250 at-bats, but given his consistency, he is likely to pick up the pace a bit. If you have a deep enough league, perhaps with five outfield slots, that gives you the ability to platoon Joyce (much like the Rays do), then he is definitely worth a pickup / stash. The same goes for AL-Only leagues. Otherwise, someone who only faces righties will not give you enough production throughout the course of the year to keep on your roster long-term. But again, he could still be a worthy option as a short-term injury replacement.
