BALLER MOVE: Add in NL-Only / Deeper Leagues / Keeper Leagues
ANALYSIS: Arismendy Alcantara was called up to make a two-game major league debut for the Cubs on Wednesday, with Darwin Barney out on paternity leave. Well, those two days are up, and Alcantara isn't going anywhere just yet. The sixth highest-ranked hitter the Cubs have in their farm system made a statement in his second game on Thursday, posting four hits in five bats, two of which were for extra bases. He also scored two runs and knocked in three more, now making his way onto our waiver wire pickups list.
The speedy middle infielder has developed some power in the minors, putting up 15 home runs to go along with 31 stolen bases in Double-A in 2013. He is continuing that pace in Triple-A this year, with 10 home runs and 21 stolen bases to date. He is an above-average fielder who can play multiple positions, and can be a very valuable piece of Chicago's lineup going forward. It is unknown how long he will be in the majors, or how much he will produce right away if he does remain with the club, but he may be worth a flier in a deeper and NL-Only leagues given his success in the minors. Definitely stash the 22-year-old in a keeper league, if possible.
