Second Base Waiver Wire Pickups

Jose Ramirez: (CLE) - Owned in 8.0% of leagues

Since being moved up to the second spot in the lineup, Ramirez has been great. The average is there, and he’s swiped six bags in his last 30 games, which is nothing to scoff at. The only potential concern is the possible call-up of prospect Francisco Lindor from AAA Columbus, but I don’t see the Indians making a change while Ramirez is hitting.

Baller Move: Add in deep leagues, monitor in all leagues

Donovan Solano (MIA) - Owned in 1.4% of leagues

This Miami call-up is swinging a red-hot bat lately, hitting right around .400 over his last 10 games. The kid gets on base, and as a result has been scoring runs at a pretty good clip. A good OBP ain’t nothing to mess with, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Baller Move: Add in deeper leagues or as injury replacement

Shortstop Waiver Wire Pickups

Wilmer Flores (NYM) - Owned in 1.5% of leagues

Ruben Tejada clearly is not a long-term solution at shortstop, and Terry Collins has been willing to give Flores a chance to prove himself. While not an offensive superstar, Flores is a serviceable plug-and-play option, as he doesn’t strike out often and is capable of producing some counting stats. You could do worse if you’re desperate.

Baller Move: Add in deeper leagues or as injury replacement

Jordy Mercer (PIT) - Owned in 14.7% of leagues

Mercer has been heating up of late, and has even cracked three homers in his last six games. He’s a multi-talented hitter, but don’t expect fireworks every night. However, like I said, he is hot currently, and if you need a guys for a couple days or as a plug-and-play, he could be your guy
