ANALYSIS: In his first full season in 2014, Jarred Cosart struggled a bit in 20 starts with the Astros before being moved to the Marlins before the July 31 trade deadline. Since the deal, the 24-year-old righty has been dominant in five of his six starts, his only poor performance coming in his first start with Miami against the Reds in which he gave up four earned runs in 5.1 innings.
His most recent five outings have seen just five runners cross home plate, striking out 20 batters and walking just six over 35.1 innings pitched. The Marlins have won all five of those starts, and Cosart's 1.27 ERA over the past 30 days is the fifth best in all of baseball, even better than those of Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sale.
Cosart is a prototypical ground ball pitcher (2.01 GB/FB ratio), and his improved command helps him keep his team in games. He basically just throws a mid-90s fastball and a looping curveball, but it works for him. Like Fiers, Cosart doesn't have the most incredible stuff in the league, but he works with what he has, and has found success with it.
Over the last week or two of the season and the playoffs, consider Cosart a solid option in NL-Only leagues and deep mixed leagues, assuming he continues to pitch this well.
