ANALYSIS: Over the course of the season the San Diego Chargers have dealt with numerous injuries over the course of the season with their running backs: Danny Woodhead (broken fibula), Donald Brown (concussion) and Ryan Mathews (MCL sprain). Because of necessity the next man up mentality has presented an opportunity for rookie Branden Oliver to step in. Oliver has certainly done that and then some.
Over the past 3 games he's totaled 282 rushing yards (4.7 yard/carry) and 2 TDs. To add even more value Oliver also compiled 10 catches, 102 yards (34 yards/game) and 1 TD. It is known that Mathews is due to come back from injury soon and will take over starting duties but so far he has not practiced. Since Mathews isn't on the return radar yet, Oliver will likely continue to hold down the starting duties for the Chargers until their bye week (week 10). Since Oliver has versatility in the passing and running game, he is a must add in all leagues.
