In an update from this week's previous story, Miguel Cabrera is one step closer to getting back on the field, and his next step is going to feel much lighter after shedding his walking boot.
Today, he posted a picture on Instagram and Twitter of him without said boot after a visit from Dr. Robert Anderson, the man who originally performed his foot surgery. This is good news leading up to Cabrera’s upcoming visit with Dr. Anderson where he will get a clearer sign as to his ankle's health and the status of his recovery.
However, this recent update does not necessarily mean that Cabrera’s timetable has been sped up.
Cabrera will have to wear arched shoes for the next month in place of the boot, and despite sounding hopeful, Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand had wishful thinking in regards to Cabrera’s evaluation:
"He's cleared to walk with that during activities of daily living here for the next month before he's reexamined in February," Rand said. "Hopefully at that time in February it'll come back clean and he'll be cleared to start conditioning activities, running and such."
Cabrera's visit with Dr. Anderson will be held close to the start of the Tigers first full squad workouts. Rand stated that Cabrera could begin doing a bit more upper body exercises, but won’t be doing any full body conditioning until being cleared by Anderson. As long as the news for Cabrera remains positive, and he has yet to hit a setback, Tigers fans and fantasy owners should remain calm. It seems more and more likely that Miggy will be ready by Opening Day.
