ANALYSIS: Last season, the Brewers’ second base job was filled by two players going in opposite directions: Rickie Weeks, a right-handed veteran who struggled against righties and has seen the prime of his career pass him by, and Scooter Gennett, a 24-year-old left-hander who struggled against lefties in his first full season of Major League action. Following the departure of Weeks, the full-time role of second baseman is ready to be passed on to Gennett.
Gennett made his major league debut in June of 2013, but was not given the chance to play until 2014, and he capitalized on his time in the majors. Acting as a platoon second base option, Gennett had a slash line of .289/.320/.434 with nine home runs, 54 RBI, 55 runs scored and six stolen bases. And while he struggled mightily against left-handed pitching (.103 BA), his strength against right-handed pitchers (.307 BA) combined with his location (batting first or second) in a powerful lineup hints at a strong fantasy season to come. He will not provide much in the way of power or speed, but he will give a solid batting average and score a lot of runs. With the lack of quality offensive second basemen in the majors right now, Gennett would be a solid pickup in any league as a potential top-ten second baseman.
