Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect Archie Bradley will be taking Trevor Cahill's spot in the rotation, following his trade to the Atlanta Braves.
Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic tweeted: "I'm told that the Cahill trade does, as expected, open a spot in Dbacks rotation for top prospect Archie Bradley." Bradley will be joining a rotation with Josh Collmenter, Rubby De La Rosa, Jeremy Hellickson and Chase Anderson.
On Thursday, Arizona dealt Cahill to Atlanta along with cash considerations for outfield prospect Josh Elander. This does not, however, guarantee Bradley a spot in the rotation for the entire season. Bronson Arroyo and Patrick Corbin, who are both recovering from Tommy John surgery, are expected back in the middle of the year.
Bradley, the seventh overall pick by Arizona in the 2011 draft, will be turning 23 this season. In 2014, Bradley went 3-7 in 17 starts between Double-A and Triple-A where he pitched to a 5.18 ERA for the latter. He also missed part of the season with a minor elbow injury that delayed his promotion to the majors.
Bradley is currently the 16th ranked MLB prospect according to MLB.com, a drop from seventh prior to the 2014 season. While Bradley's injury and delayed promotion did hurt his fantasy value, he is worth a pickup in deeper leagues, especially in formats that allow for N/A spots.
