New York Jets Sign Running Back Stevan Ridley

The addition of running back Stevan Ridley to the New York Jets comes as a slight head-scratcher given the team’s current situation at the position. As it stands right now, both Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell remain on the roster, so it’s hard to envision a scenario where this becomes anything other than a three-headed monster in the backfield. That being said, one would have to assume that Ivory’s recent success  would give him a slight edge to lead the team in carries.

Clutter at running back position aside, we can't just ignore the fact that Stevan Ridley is coming off an ACL and MCL tear with the Patriots last season. The injury came in Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills, so it's not like the injury was late in the year. But players coming off of major surgery like that are always cause for a concern.

Luckily for Ridley, he'll be going into a situation with very little pressure with two other RBs willing and able to carry the load should he be less than 100% for the start of the season. Overall, there isn't much to be said about this move from a fantasy perspective. This is a low-risk, one-year deal for a Jets team that is still very much in the process of rebuilding their offense. The acquisition of Ridley is absolutely one made out of a need for depth.
