David Wright Shut Down: New Back Issues, Hamstring Fine

David Wright will be shut down due to back issues while he’s already trying to comeback from a hamstring injury that landed him on the DL back in April.

The New York Mets captain and third basemen was shut down after his back flared up on him during rehabilitation. Wright will resume activities on Monday, according to ESPNNewYork.com.

"In the last few days, he has experience some lower back pain," The Mets said in a statement released Friday about Wright’s back, according to Newsday.

Mets Manager Terry Collins said the club is just being careful because of Wright's past back issues that have landed him on the DL before.  The good news for New York is that it appears as if his hamstring issue is behind him. There’s still a chance he could return to the lineup sometime next week.

The Mets initially tried using Eric Campbell at third base. With Campbell having slumped, Dilson Herrera  was called up a week ago to man second base, which then the Mets moved Murphy to third base.
