A.J. Ramos To Get Save Chances For Marlins

For the time being, A.J. Ramos will likely get most of the save opportunities for the Miami Marlins after the team demoted Steve Cishek.

The Miami Herald reported the Ramos will get the “bulk” of the chances as the team could be in the market to land Rafael Soriano. MLB.com reported that the Marlins are “very much engaged” in signing Soriano.

As those rumors swirl, Marlins manager, Mike Redmond will go with a committee at closer. Ramos is likely the first name to be called upon to save games as the 28-year-old right-hander has been dominant this season. In 16 appearances, Ramos has allowed only two runs in 16 innings pitched. Ramos has a 1.06 ERA and 21:6 K:BB ratio in those innings. Last season he had a 2.11 ERA in the Marlins bullpen.

Soriano has had different roles throughout his career, but is a veteran closer that has saved games for five different teams.

Cishek will be used in early relief innings for the Marlins. He has a dreadful 10.32 ERA and blew the last two games for Miami.
