ANALYSIS: Coming into this season, nobody expected the Houston Astros to be leading their division at this point in the season, much less lead by 5.5 games. The shortstop position was to be held by Jed Lowrie who signed a three-year deal with the Astros this past offseason. Unfortunately, Lowrie's season was derailed due to thumb surgery which will sideline him until the All-Star break.
Since the injury, the Astros have played Jonathan Villar and Marwin Gonzalez who are both hitting a paltry .250 or less. Meanwhile, stud prospect Carlos Correa has been mostly on fire in the minors with a recent promotion to Triple-A. Correa is hitting .253 with .429 slugging percentage over his first 22 Triple-A games. Including Double-A production, he has 18 steals and 41 RBIs combined.
Correa is currently the fourth best prospect in MLB according to Baseball America and surely will be an upgrade over Villar and Gonzalez. If the Astros want to keep the division lead they will need to promote Correa to help boost their offense. When Lowrie does return it is likely that he will move to third base. Correa will contribute to many fantasy stats and will be a must add when he's promoted. If you have have a spot on your roster now, add him before he gets called up.
