Eduardo Rodriguez shines bright in his MLB debut Thursday by throwing 7 2/3 scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers for the victory.
It was supposed to be a one-time appearance for the Boston Red Sox rookie, but that might not be the case after this performance. The 22-year-old left-hander only allowed three hits against a solid offensive Rangers team.
Rodriguez allowed three hits and two walks. One walk and hit came in the eighth inning, which is why he didn’t have a chance to at least pitch eight innings. He dazzled the red-hot Prince Fielder by striking him out in the first inning for what was a three-up-three-down outcome. Rodriguez added six more strikeouts in his impressive debut.
He actually has some experience in the minors despite a young age. Rodriguez has pitched within the Baltimore Orioles and Boston farm systems for six seasons. Throughout his minor league career, has posted a 3.23 ERA. In Triple-A this season, he had a 2.98 ERA with one complete game. With the Red Sox in Double-A last season, he had a 0.96 ERA in six starts.
