Strasburg Leaves Game With Pain In His Trap: DL A Possibility

Stephen Strasburg left Friday’s outing with an apparent shoulder injury, according to MA SN.

The Washington Nationals starting pitcher only lasted five batters before a team trainer checked him out and had him removed. The Cincinnati Reds scored in that first inning and went on to win the game Friday. The more important issue is whether or not Strasburg will land on the DL and if so, how long he will be out.

It hasn’t been the best season for the 26-year-old right-hander. In nine starts this season, Strasburg has a 6.50 ERA, which is by far the worst of his career. After a full season, he never had higher than a 3.16 ERA. His record for the season is now 3-5.

According to the Washington Post, the injury in his left trapezius muscle. His upper left of his back and his neck are what caused him to leave the game.

“It’s pretty stiff,” Strasburg told the Post after the game. “I don’t know why. It felt fine the first inning, and once I sat down in the second I just felt it tighten up a little bit. I threw some hot stuff on it, and it just progressed. It’s hard for me to turn my head to the left. It was just something where I didn’t feel like I would be able to throw out of the corner of my eyes. Just didn’t want to push it too much.”
